So many people can benefit from using one. Seniors affected by dementia, Alzheimer’s or stroke. Or anyone who requires sensory stimulation, such as folks with autism or ADHD. They are also wonderful as skill-learning tools for children!
Fidget mats are small lap quilts, with various fidgets, gadgets, and textures, designed to keep restless hands busy and minds engaged. A soothing and distracting activity for seniors with dementia, to reduce distress or agitation. They also are a great rehabilitation tool for stroke patients, providing simple manipulative actions to help with fine motor skills.
Our mats are lined with quilt batting and have a cozy flannel backing, so they won’t slip off the lap. The size is also perfect for taking wherever you might go. Great for taking to doctor appointments, to make the waiting time a little less stressful, or on car trips.
Each fidget mat is individually handcrafted with various fun things to fidget with. We are always searching for new and fun ideas to add. So each fidget mat is different and unique. We use all sorts of bright and colorful, new and vintage fabrics, different tactile and textured fabrics, lace and trims, interactive fidgets like zippers, buckles, buttons, to name just a few.
How did we get started?
Our family is dealing with a loved one who has dementia. When we learned the benefits of fidgets mats for people suffering from this disease, we wanted to be a part of helping in some way. So we started our fidget mat project.
